Cyber Fraud in Delhi: Retired Engineer Defrauded of Rs 10 Crore, Held in Digital Arrest for 8 Hours<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Delhi, November 14, 2024 \u2013 Cybercriminals in Delhi trapped a 72-year-old retired engineer in an 8-hour digital arrest, defrauding him of more than Rs 10 crore. Using fear tactics, they convinced him that his name was linked to the export of prohibited medicines. This intimidation led the elderly man to transfer funds across multiple bank accounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delhi Police\u2019s Cyber Cell, IFSO, is actively investigating the case. Initial findings reveal that the call originated from Cambodia, where scammers posed as crime branch officials and coerced the engineer into a Skype call. Under pressure, the man was led to believe that his family members could also face trouble, leading him to transfer a total of Rs 10.30 crore across various accounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After eight hours of confinement, he informed his family, realizing the fraud. During the investigation, police discovered that the scammers initially deposited the amount into seven bank accounts before dispersing it through 1500 other accounts. Some accounts have been frozen as the investigation progresses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The elderly victim resides with his wife in Rohini, while his son works in Dubai and his daughter is based in Singapore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
